What is the Feed-In Tariff?
The Feed-In Tariff was introduced on the 1st April 2010 by the government to encourage homeowners to generate their own energy from renewable sources. The Feed-In Tariff pays you 41.3p for every unit of electricity you generate even if you use the electricity yourself. When you are using the electricity from your solar PV installation, you will not be drawing any energy from the Grid, so it will make big savings on your bills. As electricity prices rise in the future, the savings from your solar PV system will only increase.
The Feed-In Tariff is likely to be reduced in 2012/13. This will not affect existing installations but any solar PV system installed after this date will only earn the lower rate. Now is the best time to see if solar PV is suitable for your home. For more information see our FAQs.
